Valentine’s Day can either be a time of romance or a day of frustration if love has gone by the wayside. Many women over 50 are either divorced, widowed, or never bothered to get into a relationship. If that’s you may want Valentine’s Day to pass by as quickly as possible, so you don’t have to think about it. But, there’s another alternative. You can celebrate Galentine’s Day with your girlfriends.
Galentine’s Day is officially celebrated on February 13th. It originated on the 16th episode of the TV show “Parks and Recreation.” Leslie, played by Amy Poehler, throws a Galentine’s party with her female friends, the day before Valentine’s Day. It was such a popular episode that the idea has gone from fiction to a tradition. And why not? Sometimes, our girlfriends are the most important people in our lives. They give us support, camaraderie, and are just plain fun to be with.
Verizon has come up with several Galentine’s Day party ideas if you’re thinking of throwing a gal pal bash. And they let me borrow a few of them to try out myself.
Set up a Google Home Mini
The Google Home Mini is a clever little gadget that will let you ask it questions or give it commands like “Play me California Dreamin’ by the Mamas and Papas. or “How do you say, ‘You’re beautiful!’ in Portuguese?”
I tried it out in this video. It got a little mixed up on the Mama’s and the Papa’s, but it knew Bob Dylan. I easily set it on by using the Google Mini App on my Android phone and it was love at first question.
Make your Galentine’s Day party fun by projecting your favorite music videos or photos
I love when the phone says “Hello Moto!”
Other ideas are:
- Create your very own photo booth backdrop to show how much you all adore each other
- Capture your memories instantly using the Polaroid Insta-Share Printer Moto Mod
- Craft your very own Lipstick Pinata filled with your favorite candies and treats
- Set the right mood with the Philips Hue Lightstrip
I say embrace technology. All of the above is cool!
And then, of course, you need some great food to eat and chocolate. Lots and lots of chocolate.
