I wrote a post a while back that I was going to be receiving an Omron Avail wireless TENS device to try out and review. Its purpose is to reduce pain without having to use drugs. I’ve had my device for a few weeks and wanted to report on my experience using it.
It works with the Omron Tens app that you download from your smartphone using either Google Play or the Apple App Store.

In my box, I found two wireless devices, some stick-on pads to use with them, a charger, AC adaptor, and a storage case with a pad holder. All you do is place the two devices into the charger and plug it into a wall outlet. When they are fully charged pair them with the app to start the pain-relieving process.

To be fully transparent, I had a problem getting started. I plugged in the charger and charged my devices for a few days. (It doesn’t take that long, I just didn’t get to them until then) I downloaded the app into my phone, followed the directions and couldn’t get them to pair. Fortunately, I called Omron customer support and they were more than happy to help me.
I had found an official Omron video about the Avail wireless TENS device on YouTube. A young lady pressed the power button once on the devices that were sitting in the charger and they quickly paired with the app. I followed exactly what she did, and it didn’t work. After I called support I found out that my device paired when I took the devices out of the charger and set them down on another surface. Once I did that, they worked fine. So, if the same thing happens to you, that’s the solution.
Using the Omron TENS app
Once the app is paired it will take you through several steps. First, it will ask you what part of your body you want to use the device on and will give you several choices. Then you will place the pad with the device clipped on, on that part of your body.
I don’t have too much chronic pain, thankfully, but my legs and feet get sore because I walk a lot. I chose to put the pad on my lower calf. I inserted the device onto one of the pads I received in my box and stuck it to my leg. It has a sticky surface that holds it in place.
Next, it asks what therapy you want to use and gives you the choice of TENS or Microcurrent. You can also choose a favorite for the future. Then, select a mode: There is a list you can choose from like Knead or Acupuncture like. I chose the method it recommends for my leg.
You can also choose how long you want the therapy to last. That can be as short as 5 minutes to an hour. Then, click to start.

There is a plus or minus sign that ranges from 1 – 20 to control how powerful the sensation will be. I clicked it up to about an 8, which was still gentle. Then you let it do its work. Because it’s wireless, you can move around if you need to.
I noticed that the aching in my calves and the arches of my feet started to diminish immediately. The feeling you get using the device is subtle. To me, it felt like tiny electrical pulses were gently massaging my feet and calming down the nerves causing the ache.
Some things you need to know about the Omron wireless TENS device
As with anything that has to do with your health, you want to make sure it’s safe to use for your particular situation. One of the safety warnings states that you should consult with your physician before using the device. Don’t use it if you have any type of heart condition such as AFib because it gives off a very subtle electrical charge.
You also don’t want to place the pad near a cancerous lesion, diseased skin, open wounds, rashes, swollen or red areas, phlebitis, thrombophlebitis or varicose veins. Don’t use it near your head, neck, mouth, face, heart, or genitals. If you have a pacemaker or any other type of heart implant, this device is not for you.
I wanted to mention these things because not all of us read all the instructions before using an appliance or device and it’s important to know.
Obviously, don’t jump into the shower if you are wearing a device. LOL
The pads stick on with a sticky surface. There are plastic protectors you can pull on and off. If you use it near your shoulders, you may want to pull your hair back or it will get stuck on the sticky surface. Not fun. Pulling it off is like pulling off a bandage.
Ease of Use
The Omron Avail wireless TENS device is easy to use once you get the hang of it. You can wear it while you’re sitting at your desk, resting, or even working around your house. I’ll be writing one more post soon to sum up my results.
This post has been sponsored by Omron and I will receive compensation for reviewing the Omron Avail. However, all opinions are my own.
