If you open any skin care magazine, you’ll be shocked to see what changes await you after you reach a certain age. Once you’re past sixty, the prognosis can be downright depressing. It’s especially challenging for busy women, who work constantly, to keep up with a regular skincare routine. But, it’s not all gloom and doom. If you take a few simple measures to protect your skin, you can still keep it youthful-looking.
Busy women still need to make time to take care of their skin
1. Moisturizing is everything
As you get older, your skin stops functioning the way it used to. It’s perfectly natural for it to get drier as you age, but there’s no reason you can’t do something about it. Having beautiful, healthy skin is all about how much dedication you put into taking care of it and a good moisturizer is key. The question that’s on everyone’s mind is: What’s the best type of moisturizer to use?
There are tons of options you can pick from but most women opt for a moisturizing cream. If you apply it daily your skin will stay silky and smooth. Applying a facial mask at least once a week is even better.
2. Protect your skin from the sun
It’s fun to indulge in the summer sun every once in a while, but as we all know it’s damaging to the skin. Sunbathing on the beach is luxurious and relaxing, but if you don’t protect your skin it will soon look like leather. Avoiding the sun like a vampire isn’t always possible, especially if you’re constantly on the move. And a little color makes us look more alive.
Your best bet would be to apply a sunscreen with a very high SPF number. If you’re spending time at the beach, make sure to cover your whole body with sunscreen. Don’t leave anything to chance!
3. Stay hydrated
People often underestimate the effects of proper hydration. Drinking your daily recommended dose of water will do wonders for just about every aspect of your health. Your hair will look better, your immune system will be working in top form, and your skin will be gleaming with health. Most people disregard drinking water because they assume they’ve had enough if they aren’t thirsty. This is a common misconception; thirst only exists to inform you when you really need a lot of water.
As busy women, it can be easy to forget to drink that extra glass of water. You could use an alarm to remind you when to take a sip, or you could simply try to always keep a full glass of water on your desk. And don’t forget to carry a reusable water bottle in your purse and sip on it whenever you feel thirsty.
4. Be gentle with your hygiene
Our skin is a very tough organ. It’s constantly bombarded by many different, harmful chemicals and bacteria, but it manages to fight them off. Still, we should try our best to ease its workload whenever we can. The bathroom would be a good start. Most of the Western world still use toilet paper, but many skin care experts recommend switching to a more French version of hygiene.
Bidets have been suggested as a healthier supplement to toilet paper. The many benefits of using a bidet make them the ideal choice for bathroom hygiene. Toilet paper is abrasive even If you get the highest possible quality of the paper. The paper doesn’t even leave you completely clean and this allows bacteria to thrive. Showering constantly is hardly an alternative. Warm showers and soap leave our skin dehydrated and weak. This is why it’s not recommended to shower all that often. With a bidet, you’re only using a tiny bit of water and it’s going to leave you feeling clean and refreshed for the rest of your day.
5. Beauty sleep
Sleep is something we all need more of. Much like water, it’s criminally underrated when it comes to both health and beauty. Most of us don’t get enough shut-eye every night. If you’re a night owl and you’re constantly working, it could lead to an inadequate number of sleeping hours.
Many busy individuals try to compensate by sleeping more on off-days. Due to how our circadian rhythm works, this doesn’t actually produce very good results. Even If you binge sleep on weekends, you’re still going to need a proper eight hours of sleep during the workweek. If you aren’t able to stick to a rhythm, there are some alternative sleep patterns that have been used throughout history. Six hours of sleep at night and a short nap after work have been shown to be very effective in keeping people well-rested. It’s tough to get into, but once you’ve started it becomes very comfortable.
Skin care for busy women is a challenging ordeal, especially if you are trying to keep it healthy past a certain age. Luckily, there are measures you can take to keep your whole body looking youthful and gleaming. If you follow some of these tips, you’ll be on your way to having even better skin than before.
