Sometimes it can be a hassle to go to the store, especially when you have to drive through traffic to get there. For a few years, we lived on top of a hill overlooking the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles. I had to plan my errands because each time I drove down the hill it was a trek going from place to place. I found that scheduling food deliveries to my door was incredibly convenient and save me gas and stress.
Farm Fresh to You – A Farmer’s Market in a box
Farm Fresh to You is a California-based company that offers food deliveries of locally grown, organic fruit and vegetables. For several years, I ordered their farm box twice a month. Each box contains a newsletter with recipes specifically for featured items. You can customize your box for each delivery if you want and also add farm-made treats to your order like nuts, jams, and balsamic vinegar. Everything I received was always fresh and delicious.
Milk and Eggs
I have also ordered food deliveries from Milk and Eggs. What’s exciting about them is that in addition to organic fruits and vegetables, they deliver fresh meat, fish, yogurt, pasta, sauces, bread, juice, and, of course, milk and eggs.
I was amazed at how fresh their fish was and their pasta and pasta sauces were divine!
My order arrived packed in a thermal shopping bag with an ice pack inside.
The advantage of ordering from Milk and Eggs is that all their food is farm direct, and will save you up to 50% off what you would pay at a grocery store for the same quality.
Their bagels came from Brooklyn Bakery and the fettuccine was from Domenico’s. Even though they weren’t made in-house they were high-quality and tasty.
Milk and Eggs is also based in California but if you aren’t local and would love to enjoy tasty food deliveries, I have some other great suggestions
Companies that provide special diet food deliveries and meal kits that are healthy
Do you want pre-packaged meals that are already put together and ready to eat but are just as healthy as if they were homemade? Forget about frozen TV dinners that are high in sodium and preservatives. The home delivery companies I’ve listed below focus on good health and can accommodate specific dietary needs.
Home Chef – This company puts together healthy meal kits that you assemble and cook them yourself. You choose 15 of your favorite fresh recipes from their list. Some features steak, chicken, pork, fish, vegetarian and other choices. Then, they will send you a box or pre-portioned ingredients with recipe cards that correspond. Each meal is packed in ice and ready to stick in your freezer until you are ready. You receive a new box each week. Ingredients are fresh and sourced from trusted suppliers and meals take approximately 30 minutes from start to finish.
Home Bistro, offers fully cooked chef-prepared meals that are not only healthy but will help you lose or maintain weight. All of their meals are based on the Mediterranean Diet, natural, low in sodium, and locally sourced. Their meats are antibiotic and hormone free and handled humanely. They deliver all over the United States, except Alaska and Hawaii. You don’t have to be a member and can order whenever you like. There’s no need to diet because their meals are portion controlled.
Balance by BistroMD is similar to Home Bistro in that they provide Chef-Prepared meals, made with fresh ingredients and home delivery. The difference is that they cater to specialty diets such as gluten-free, low carb, low sodium, diabetic, dairy free, heart healthy, vegetarian, weight loss, and even menopause issues. There’s something for everyone.
