Halloween has always been a fun holiday and I enjoy walking through my neighborhood on my morning walk to see all the crazy decorations. I live in Burbank, next to Toluca Lake and am within walking distance to Disney, Warner Bros, and Universal Studios. Many of my neighbors have ties to the film business so as you can imagine, they’re creative.
I often walk past a house that used to belong to Bob and Delores Hope and is still owned by the family. It’s a huge property and so are many of the homes surrounding it. A few go all out with decorations. One guy went so far as to build a pirate ship on his front lawn.
Another built an entire haunted house.
I’ve never been much into the macabre so gory decorations with scary monsters and decapitated heads aren’t my thing. It seems bad Feng Shui to have tombstones on your lawn. But some displays are clever and funny. I always carry my smartphone in a pouch when I walk in case I catch a shot I don’t want to miss.

Giving Back for Halloween as a Fortune Teller
My daughter works for an investment capital firm and they often do community work as volunteers. She asked me to use my acting chops as a fortune teller at a Halloween party for disadvantaged kids at the Boys and Girls Club in Burbank. I guess I was a hit because I was asked to do an encore appearance at a Halloween party for disadvantaged and homeless kids in Hollywood. Maybe I missed my calling.
Some of the adults wanted me to read their fortunes and seemed to buy my act. And I seriously was seeing things in my mind. Maybe it was my magic rocks.
