One of the most important things I look for in an airline, when flying to Europe, in addition to finding a good deal is the comfort. Sitting cramped like a sardine for over 10 hours can be excruciating, especially if you’re over 50. XL Airways, a French Airline based in Paris, the City of Light. It specializes in long flights and customer comfort but can also save you on needless expenses so you can enjoy your vacation even more.
You can book a flight from LAX-Paris that flies 3 times per week. Their schedule also includes up to 18 weekly non-stop flights to Paris CDG (Charles De Gaule) from JFK, SFO, LAX, and MIA. A hot meal with complimentary water and hot drinks as well as one 44lb max checked-in suitcase are included in the cost of a ticket at affordable rates. On long flights, breakfast and a snack may also be included. There are a variety of paid snacks, hot and cold drinks available for purchase.
Their wide-bodied 30″ to 31″ pitch seats are well spaced and comfortable, which is important to me. You won’t find yourself elbowing your neighbor during a flight. XL Airways offers a changeable seat selection service that’s available from 30 days before departure for a fee. Otherwise, you can select your seat at the airport. It’s to your advantage to show up early for check-in.
In-flight entertainment can be viewed on shared cabin screens and IPads are available to rent onboard. There are 2 outlets in each row on A330-300 airships.
Both dogs and cats are welcome as long as they are over 3 months old. Small animals under 15 lbs may fly in the cabin as long as they’re in travel approved closed soft bag or cage for 50 Euros. Larger pets fly in the hold in a pressurized compartment that’s ventilated and heated for 70 Euros. Some restrictions apply so call first to make sure your pet is eligible.
XL Airways has an excellent 7/7 safety rating and the planes are fairly new. They fly a modern fleet of state of the art 737-800, A330 -200, and A340-300 Airbus aircraft.
Are you planning a trip to the City of Light? – Here’s the deal in my opinion.
When I travel, I want to spend the majority of my budget on the destination and not on the flight. If I can forego some of the frills and still have a positive flying experience, it’s well worth it to me. I want my flight to be comfortable but I don’t necessarily need to be pampered. As long as the airline is clean, in good condition, efficient and affords me savings I will be happy.
I’ve experienced both ends of the spectrum. On one trip to Europe, we flew on a luxury airline at an inflated price. On another trip, we flew at a bargain rate on an airline that soaked us with baggage costs, was old, dirty and uncomfortable. I’m impressed with the affordability of XL Airlines and with the fact that the planes are safe, up to date and comfortable.
I don’t need to drink endless glasses of free wine to enjoy a flight to Europe. I want to get to my destination without having a backache and at an affordable price. Flying to the City of Light on a French airline that won’t empty my pocketbook is a perfect formula for a successful trip.
